Nothing But Nets Malaria Boot Camp

The World Affairs Council of Houston, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, will host Nothing But Nets malaria boot camp for students. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Nothing But Nets provides insecticide-treated bed nets and also educates an African family on its use. Inspired by Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly, thousands of people have joined this life saving campaign.

Now your students can learn more about malaria and get involved in this world-wide effort.

The boot camp will consist of:

  • Expert panel discussion on malaria
  • Malaria awareness quiz game
  • Small group breakout sessions on how to talk about malaria, raise awareness, and develop an action plan
  • Guest appearances from the Houston Rockets

Why should your students attend? Malaria is the leading cause of death among children in Africa. In addition to the burden on the health system, malaria costs Africa in lost productivity, school absenteeism, decreased tourism, and even affects the type of crops that are grown.
