About The Academy
The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston Global Scholars Academy is a nonpartisan, nonprofit Academy providing an opportunity for students, grades 7th – 12th, to develop interest and demonstrate expertise in understanding world cultures and international issues. Curriculum includes a globally-focused course of study, including classes, coursework, projects, extracurricular activities and visits to relevant outside organizations.
We’re excited to bring Greater Houston area students the best of international relations through small group seminars, interactive Q&A sessions and group learning and research projects.
11:10 A.M. Introduce presentation requirement and group assignments; WACH staff discussion for Friday presentation: presentation time, styles of presentation, being informative and persuasive | WACH Staff
11:25 A.M. Groups select Country | WACH Staff
- 3-4 students per group
- Groups select region to focus their presentation on
- Groups develop essential research questions, build plan for remainder of week, and assign roles to group members
- Groups begin preliminary research through online methods using WACH laptops
- Groups announce topic to Academy students and plan of action for research; receive feedback from Academy participants, facilitator, WACH staff, and volunteers
