About The Event

Join the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston for a social evening focused on International Development and Humanitarian Aid.

What is International Development? International Development programs bring knowledge and resources to help communities and governments around the world as they work to end extreme poverty; support the advancement of human rights .

The event will have a guest expert who will be facilitating a discussion around international development and how to engage in ethical ways when doing humanitarian aid work. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions to learn about ways to get involved in their own community as leaders.

About The Speaker

Fatima Raza is the Assistant Director of Programs and Partnerships at Rice University. She works primarily with the Loewenstern Fellowship, Leadership Rice Mentorship Experience, ASB, and the Hilda and Hershel Rich Family Endowment for Student Community Service. Prior to the CCL, Fatima earned an MPA in Economic and Political Development at Columbia University.

While in New York Fatima worked as a policy intern at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, a research assistant at the Columbia Global Policy Initiative and a graduate consultant for Mercy Corps. She is passionate about civic engagement, migration, and development. She completed a year of AmeriCorps service here in Houston and a Fulbright ETA in Turkey after earning her B.A. in International Affairs from Emory University.
