This event will highlight the diplomatic work that Consul General Alicia Kerber Palma is doing in the Houston Area with migrant women. Also, the program will focus on the Consul General’s perspective as a highly accomplished woman in the diplomatic sphere.
About the Speaker
Alicia Kerber is a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1991, with the rank of Ambassador. She has served in several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and missions of Mexico abroad, and has also worked in the National Commission on Human Rights and the Ministries of Tourism and Education, and in the Institute of Social Security for State Workers, in Mexico City.
Ambassador Kerber has held several positions abroad, as Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in Colombia; Consul of Mexico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras (2003-2006); Representative of Mexico before the Organization of American States (2006-2009); Deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Mexico in Ireland (2009-2012); Consul of Mexico in Kansas City, Missouri (2012-2016), and Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia (2016-2019). Since June 2019, Amb. Kerber is Consul General of Mexico in Houston.
Amb. Kerber has a degree in Law from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City) and completed his master’s and doctoral studies in International Law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She has taught International Law at several prestigious universities and is the author of several articles and essays in specialized legal journals in Mexico and other countries. During her tenure as Consul of Mexico in Kansas City, she designed and executed the Initiative for the Integral Attention to Women with the objective of giving special attention to Mexican migrant women. This model has been replicated in the 50 consulates of Mexico in the United States. She is passionate about the promotion of gender equality in the public service and in the consular work with Mexican communities abroad.
