About the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston

The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston is the premier non-profit non-partisan organization for global education in the city. Since 1969 the Council has connected Houstonians to the world, through dynamic programs, events, and initiatives. By joining the team, you will play an important role in assisting and contributing to building a more informed, connected, and globally aware community.

Frequently Asked Questions

All internships at the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston are in-person. We currently do not offer remote opportunities.

Typical terms are 3-4 months with the exception of summer where interns need to commit to at least 8 weeks.

Interns must commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week. You are required to attend and assist with 2-3 events per month.

Internships are unpaid, but course credit may be available. High performing Fall Interns may be selected to apply for a Spring Internship, upon which they will receive pay in the form of a stipend after the first semester completed with the Council.

Yes, course credit may be available for your internship. We encourage you to discuss this opportunity with your academic advisor or department to ensure that your internship experience meets the necessary requirements for credit.

You are welcome to apply, however, all selected international applicants will need to obtain valid work authorization on his/her own behalf. Please feel free to visit the USCIS website for detailed work authorization information.

Interning at the Council does not guarantee employment with the organization. All of the Council’s open career opportunities are posted online.

Internship applications are reviewed on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis due to high demand and limited availability. Applicants are selected based on their qualifications and commitment to the internship’s requirements.

Due to the high volume of applications we cannot guarantee your application will be reviewed after the deadline. If there is still opening after the deadline, eligible candidates will be contacted for an interview. 

Candidates who are selected for an interview will be notified. Candidates will be contacted only if their applications are selected for further review.
