Director Raymond Greene of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will join the Council in conversation by exploring the critical intersection of defense, semiconductors, and U.S.-China strategic competition. With Taiwan at the center of global semiconductor manufacturing and a focal point of regional security dynamics, Director Greene will provide insights into how technological leadership, economic resilience, and defense preparedness converge in U.S. policy in the region as well as key challenges and opportunities in the semiconductor sector, its role in national security, and the broader geopolitical landscape in the Indo-Pacific region.

Raymond Greene

Raymond F. Greene became Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on July 8, 2024. A Senior Foreign Serviceofficer with the rank of Minister-Counselor, he has over 28 years of experience advancing U.S. interests in the Indo-Pacific. His previous roles include Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, U.S. Consul General in Chengdu and Okinawa, and senior positions at the State Department and National Security Council. Greene holds degrees from the University of Maryland and speaks Japanese and Mandarin. He is a recipient of multiple U.S. and international honors for his diplomatic service.
