GYP Culinary Passport: Italy

This is a 21+ event.

As part of our Culinary Passport series, we invite you to join us— in partnership with the Italian Cultural & Community Center— for an aperitivo italiano at the historic Milford House.

This immersive tasting experience will showcase red wines from Sicily and Piedmont, two of Italy’s most renowned and rapidly emerging wine regions. As we journey from Sicily’s volcanic slopes to the rolling hills of Piedmont, we’ll explore the unique characteristics and shared traditions of these distinct terroirs. Featured wineries include Mirafiore, a storied Langhe estate, and Terrazze dell’Etna, a bold young winery perched on Mount Etna. Guiding us through the tasting will be Ferdinando Favara of Ethica Wines, with Italian-style light bites to complement the evening.

The Culinary Passport series is your ticket to the world without leaving Houston! Each edition explores a different country through authentic cuisine, fascinating conversations, and connections that matter.

We’ve already conquered Spain, Israel, South Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Colombia, France, Venezuela, Brazil, and more.

Featured Speaker: Ferdinando Favara

Ferdinando Favara

Ferdinando is an enthusiastic professional with a deep passion for the wine and spirits world, born and raised in Marsala, a historic city of wine. He enjoys collaborating with others and considers himself a strong team player. He chose to interrupt his studies in Economics in search of more practical challenges. This decision led him to gain hands-on experience in various facets of the wine industry.

Ferdinando’s journey in the wine sector began in 2015, when he first worked as a cellar assistant during the summer months in Sicily. He gained experience in the vineyard, learning about all stages of the production cycle, from pruning to harvesting. In the cellar, he became familiar with the different steps of the vinification and aging processes of sparkling, white, red, and sweet wines.

After these experiences, he decided to challenge himself on how to promote and sell Italian fine wines, so he started working as an export consultant for a company that owned a portfolio of more than a thousand items, gaining a broad view of Italy’s wine heritage.

Currently, after pursuing an MBA to refine his strategic approach to business practices, Ferdinando remains dedicated to growing in the wine industry. Joining Ethica Wines with a positive attitude, Ferdinando aims to contribute to elevating Italian wine to new heights.
