The Global Exchange: A Professional Development Learning Series

In an era of rapid globalization, understanding international affairs is no longer optional—it’s essential. The Global Exchange, presented by the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston, is a hands-on, interactive learning series designed to break down the “what, why, and how” of pressing global issues.

Each session offers an in-depth exploration of topics such as trade tariffs, immigration policies, sports diplomacy, cybersecurity, and more—led by renowned experts, policymakers, and industry leaders. Through real-world case studies, practical exercises, and engaging discussions, participants will uncover the intricate connections between nations and gain tangible skills that can be applied across industries.

Mastering International Negotiation

Kicking off The Global Exchange series, this high-impact session focuses on the art of international negotiation—an essential skill for professionals operating across borders.

How does a U.S. business prepare to pursue opportunities in another country? What are the key cultural, economic, and political factors that shape international deals? How can professionals shift from transactional negotiations to building long-term, trust-based relationships abroad?

This first session will explore:

  • Pre-Trip Preparation – Researching cultural norms, economic conditions, and regulatory environments before entering a new market.
  • Negotiation Strategies – Adapting communication styles, handling conflict, and leveraging diplomatic techniques for international success.
  • Building Relationships Beyond the Deal – Understanding the importance of trust, long-term partnerships, and cultural nuances in global business.
  • Post-Negotiation Follow-Up – Maintaining international business relationships and ensuring sustained success.

Upon completion of a session, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their expertise and commitment to global understanding. If you are a student, a professional or just a globally curious citizen, The Global Exchange provides the knowledge and tools needed to navigate today’s international landscape with confidence.

Take the next step in your international career with this transformative learning experience!
