WHAT IS THE GLOBAL SCHOLARS ACADEMY?
The Global Scholars Academy is a multipronged foreign affairs experience that is aimed at cultivating and inspiring students to a future in diplomacy. The program is for high school students aged 14 to 19 and takes place at the offices of the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston. The Academy’s purpose is to light the fire of critical thinking, global awareness, and practical problem-solving. Also, it’s very fun!
GENERAL INFORMATION
What do I receive upon completion of the Academy?
As a participant in the WACH Global Scholars Academy, you’ll receive a completion certificate. Plus, the invaluable knowledge and networking opportunities from field experts in Foreign Affairs and International Business.
What is the accreditation of this Academy?
The Council is certified by the State Board for Educator Certification to provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE #501096).
Will WAC help me get an internship?
While attendance of the Global Scholars Academy does not guarantee a student to obtain an internship, the GSA offers students a rich variety of opportunities to learn from and interact with professionals in a variety of career fields from which students may explore interest in.
ADMISSIONS & APPLICATION
What are the requirements for admission?
Applicants must submit the free online registration form which includes one essay. After submission, payment will secure a seat.
How do I check the status of my application?
Once you have submitted a completed online application form, you will receive a message that your application is pending preliminary review by an admissions team member. We will contact you individually if additional information is required to complete your application.
Do I need letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation are suggested, but not a requirement. While letters of recommendation offer insight into a student’s academic performance, we believe it’s important in this time to waive this requirement to best accommodate students and educators.
Do you offer formal admissions interviews?
We neither require nor offer formal admissions interviews as a part of the application.
Can I submit my application after the posted deadline?
Applications received after the priority deadlines are reviewed on a space-available basis. Applications completed after the deadline may be postponed to the next session for review, depending on available space in the Academy.
TUITION & SCHOLARSHIPS
Under what circumstances is the Academy’s tuition fee waived?
To apply to the Academy, there is a $200 tuition fee for virtual and $300 for in-person that is due upon acceptance into the Academy.
All applicants who inquire will automatically be considered for all available scholarships upon completion of their application.
What forms of payment are accepted?

What is included in my tuition fees?
Tuition fees cover all curriculum and lesson materials, project mentorship, snack and refreshments for In-Person sessions, admission fees into field trip sites and other fees associated with this week-long program.
