About The Speaker
Jeffrey R. Immelt
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, General Electric
Each year the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston honors an individual who – in the spirit of Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones – has contributed to the international life of our city. In celebration of the 18th annual Jesse Jones Award, the World Affairs Council is proud to honor Jeffrey R. Immelt as its 2017 International Citizen of the Year.
Mr. Immelt is the ninth chairman of GE, a post he has held since 2001. He has been named one of the “World’s Best CEOs” three times by Barron’s, and since he began serving as chief executive officer, GE has been named “America’s Most Admired Company” in a poll conducted by Fortune magazine and one of “The World’s Most Respected Companies” in polls by Barron’s and the Financial Times.
Mr. Immelt will discuss a range of subjects, including innovation, globalization, the necessity for multinational agreements, and why a company must have its own “foreign policy” for doing business throughout the world.
