ABOUT THE EVENT

Well before representing Texas’ 8th District, Congressman Morgan Luttrell gained an array of impactful experiences and years of service to the nation that now guide his work on: the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Homeland Security, and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

During his distinguished 14 year military career, Representative Luttrell served as a Navy SEAL on multiple combat deployments leading troops as a Naval Special Warfare Officer. In 2009, he survived a deadly helicopter crash which broke his back in 6 places and left him unconscious for 2 days. Having suffered a traumatic brain injury TBI, he was in a post-concussive state for 7 weeks.

After a lengthy and difficult recovery, Representative Luttrell returned to the frontline and his comrades. In 2014, with ongoing complications from his TBI and spinal cord injury, he was medically discharged from the military. Following his service as a SEAL, he worked to assist fellow veterans recovering from TBIs and PTSD. To better understanding these complicated neurologic conditions, Representative Luttrell completed an advanced degree in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience.

He will discuss how his own intense years of recovery have shaped his understanding and advocacy for advanced brain research and cutting-edge treatments. In keeping with his family’s long legacy of military service (including his twin brother and fellow SEAL Marcus Luttrell – whose harrowing story is presented in the book and movie ‘Lone Survivor’), in Congress, Representative Luttrell continues to be a strong voice for the nation’s defense and a dedicated proponent for veterans.

Representative Luttrell will also address how his years of military service have shaped his perspectives and policy positions on current and future national security threats for the U.S., including: Russia, China, the Middle East, and rapidly evolving AI and cyber concerns.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

U.S. Congressman & Former Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell – Texas’ 8th Congressional District

Morgan Luttrell has built a life centered around service. A 5th generation Texan raised on a horse ranch, at an early age Morgan learned the importance of hard work, discipline, and personal responsibility. He turned his strong values, deep love for America, and passion for helping others into a career of distinguished service.

After graduating from Willis High School, Morgan earned his Bachelors in Psychology from Sam Houston State University—but he found his calling when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to become a Navy SEAL.     Following an honorable 14-year military career, Morgan retired from the Navy in 2014 and applied his experience to help fellow veterans.

After achieving an advanced degree in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas, and an Advanced Leadership Certificate from Harvard, Morgan created an innovative health and wellness platform helping veterans heal from their physical and psychological injuries.  This led him to the Department of Energy where he served under former Texas Governor Rick Perry utilizing AI tools to improve brain science.

Answering the next call to duty, Morgan was elected in 2022 to serve Texas District 8 in the US House of Representatives.  He serves on the Homeland Security Committee as well as Veteran Affairs and House Armed Services.    Congressman Luttrell and his wife Leslie reside in Magnolia with their two sons, Gunner and Lincoln.
