Global Citizenship in Scouting: Merit Badges for the Boy Scouts
NOTE: Exclusive event for Boy Scouts in Sam Houston Area Council
The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston is proud to provide Merit Badge classes designed to improve civic engagement, arm Scouts with global awareness, and create well-rounded Eagle Scouts!
Utilizing the Council’s expertise in globally focused education, classes will cover Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the Community, and Communication. These classes will be taught by Ethan Eyre and Shane Brewer of the Council’s Education team, who are Eagle Scouts themselves.
Merit Badges Sessions:
August 14th:
- Citizenship in the World 9:30am – 12:30pm
- Citizenship in the Nation 1:30pm – 4:30pm
August 15th:
- Communication 9:30am – 12:30pm
- Citizenship in the Community 1:30pm – 4:30pm
Prerequisites/Post-requisites
Given the nature of some requirements, some of them cannot be covered in a single class. Prerequisites/Post-requisites are as follows:
- Citizenship in the World – all requirements satisfied in-session.
- Citizenship in the Nation – one of the following: 7a, 7b, 7c
- Citizenship in the Community – 3, 4, 7
- Communication – 5, 8
Scouts are welcome to complete these requirements beforehand to earn completion of the badge at the end of the session, or Scouts may complete them after the session and have our counselors sign off upon completion.
Scouts must bring a blue card signed by their Scoutmaster or unit leader to receive completion for the requirements covered in the classes.
