About the Event:

The World Affairs Council, in partnership with the Consulate General of Israel in Houston, presents an intimate conversation with Sharaka, an non profit NGO based out of the Middle East consisting young professional leaders promoting the Abraham Accords, a series of peace agreements between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, facilitated by the U.S. Administration in late 2020. Named after the patriarch of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the accords mark a step towards peace between Israel and the Arab world. Young professionals attending will have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue about the Accords and what they mean for Israeli-Arab peace-making with those close to the issue.

About Sharaka:

Sharaka is the leading Middle-East based NGO promoting people-to-people peace and engagement today, on the basis of the Abraham Accords. Sharaka works as central hub for non-governmental collaborations between Israel and the Abraham Accords countries; as a resource of expertise, speakers and relevant connections among the Abraham Accords countries; and works to promote the understanding and popularity of the Accords regionally and worldwide.

Sharaka believes that realizing the tremendous potential of the Abraham Accords requires deepening mutual understanding, building personal ties, and encouraging diverse forms of cooperation. Governments and politicians come and go, it is the people that must make peace.

Through our offices in Israel, Bahrain and Morocco, and with volunteer advisory board members around the world, we organize joint initiatives, projects, delegations and dialogues to build bridges between our societies. As normalization between Israel and its Arab neighbors’ spreads, we are expanding our activities throughout the Middle East and to Muslim and Jewish diaspora communities around the world.

Our mission is to build bonds between young Israeli and Arab social activists and leaders, tostrengthen peace, trust, and cooperation between our societies. We believe that this will lead to a brighter future for our nations and for all the peoples of the region.
