Global Young Professionals: Volunteering @ March of Remembrance 2023
The Council is proud to support the Holocaust Remembrance Association
ABOUT THE EVENT
A little more than seventy-five years after the end of World War II, the number of living Holocaust survivors is naturally diminishing. “Why remember such heinous atrocities?,” we might well ask. However, the fact remains that failure to learn the lessons of history often results in repeating the same mistakes. Attempting to deny unpleasant or even abhorrent episodes in the lives of individuals or the history of nations does not remove the consequences of those painful periods.
The March of Remembrance is a memorial walk taken annually since 2007 on Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) to commemorate Holocaust and Genocide Awareness month to “remember, reconcile and take a stand.” Led by Mitchell and Rozalie Jerome, the March of Remembrance Texas will take place on Sunday, April 23rd from 2:00 – 5:00 PM outside of Kingwood Middle School, where towards the end of the event we will take part in a commemorative walk starting at 4:00 PM. Throughout the event, a wide range of guest speakers will be present: Consul General of Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Israel. As well as Holocaust survivors and Nazi descendants.
As volunteers, WAC Young Professionals will be escorting VIPs, government officials, and Holocaust survivors to designated areas throughout the event. In addition, YP volunteers will participate in the memorial walk in Kingwood Middle School from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Volunteers are expected to be at the location at 11 AM.
