About the Speakers
Ambassador Maris Selga has been in his current role since August of 2019. Prior to arriving in Washington, he served as Ambassador of Latvia in the People’s Republic of China. During his career, he has also been posted as the Ambassador in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ambassador to the League of the Arab States and the Permanent Observer of the Republic of Latvia to the African Union. Ambassador Selga has also lead various departments within the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of Latvia. He is fluent in Russian, English and Danish.
Charles Larson, Jr. specializes in communications with the legislative and executive branch of the federal government, media relations, and international business and trade at the LS2 Group. Charles Larson was appointed by President George W. Bush to be the USA Ambassador to Latvia. After confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Chuck was sworn in by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Jan. 7, 2008, and served in this capacity until Jan. 20, 2009. Prior to his appointment, Chuck served from 2003 to 2007 as an Iowa senator. From 1993 to 2001, he was a member of the Iowa House. While serving in the House, Larson chaired the House Economic Development Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
