About The Speaker

Amna Nawaz is a nationally acclaimed correspondent and anchor for PBS News Hour, having won an Emmy Award in 2018 for Outstanding Writing for her NBC News special Inside the White House, and a Society for Features Journalism Award. Nawaz was the first foreign journalist allowed inside North Waziristan, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, entering the global hub of Al Qaeda and Taliban activity. Nawaz was the founder and editor for NBC Asian America, a platform designed to lift the voices, concerns, and issues of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Nawaz has spent her career dedicated to objectively reporting and uncovering stories for the public to hear, such as the BP oil spill, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, U.S. Housing crisis, and conflict within the Pakistan and Afghanistan region.

Amna Nawaz earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Nawaz holds a master’s degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics.
